Once you have been accepted to a tournament and have your team schedule, you can discuss team rules and possible team bonding events with the coaching staff.

Curfews

Players and parents should be aware of curfews set by the coaches to ensure proper rest and hotel conduct.

Dress Code

Discuss dress code requirements with the coach and relay to the team prior to the tournament.

Dressing Rooms/Players Bench

Players should pick up after themselves and leave the dressing room and players’ bench clean. If there are issues with the condition of the dressing room or players’ bench, advise the Tournament Coordinator immediately. The next team may assume that you left it in that condition.

Meals

Teams may want to arrange food to be brought into the hotel or prearrange a meal at a restaurant. Check with the hotel about restrictions for bringing in outside food if you are eating in one of their common areas. Or, you may need to book a meeting room.

Meal planning allows coaches to control when and what players are eating, as well as allowing for team bonding. Coaches can decide if parents and siblings are invited or if meals are only for players and coaching staff.

Team Events/Outings

Teams may want to arrange outings to a local pool, movie theater, driving range, or attraction. Check with the Tournament Coordinator and hotel for any discount coupons that might be available.

Non-Parent Coaches

It is suggested that you help cover costs through team fees for non-parent coaches. This may include:

• Meals
• Hotel
• Mileage/gas money

Game Sheets

A manager or coach will be required to sign in prior to each game and verify player and coaching staff attendance.

At the end of the game, please take a photo of the game sheet and email it to your commissioner, regardless if your team wins or loses.

Player Packages

Tournaments will often provide complimentary items for the players (programs, food, t-shirts, etc). They should let you know if you are required to pick them up or if they will be delivered to the dressing rooms. Arrange with your coach how/when you want to disperse them.

Player Prizes

If there is an entry form for a player’s prize, complete all of the forms on the players’ behalf and deposit them into the assigned container. If you leave this up to the individual players, they will likely forget.

Delegation

There can be a lot of extra work to do at tournaments if the team is organizing dinners and outings. You may have a parent volunteer to be tournament coordinator–they can assist with planning activities. If you do not have a volunteer, enlist other parents to help plan functions.

Remind parents that we represent Langley Minor Lacrosse and our conduct is always under scrutiny.

Referee & Bench Officials

Parents are NOT to engage the referees in any way, shape or form. This includes before, during and after the game. Treat bench officials with the same respect as referees

Other Team’s Coaches

Parents should NOT engage in conversation with other coaches regarding their conduct or the conduct of their players.

Langley Coaches

If a parent(s) has comments for your coach, ask them to wait until you are back at the hotel so their concerns can be dealt with privately. We do not need to air our issues in front of other associations. If a parent is upset, they should adhere to the 24 hour cooling off period.

Players

Parents should not engage in any negative conduct or comments towards players from any team. If they choose to discipline or speak negatively to their own child, they should be encouraged to wait until they are back at the hotel and can have a private conversation.

Tournament Coordinator or Representatives

You and the head coach both officially represent your team and should be the only people that bring issues/concerns to the attention of the tournament representatives.
